When You've Carried
Everyone Else —
Who Carries You?

Mental wellness coaching built for first responders, by someone who has been in the fire — literally and internally. The C.A.N. Framework is an operational system built around the language and structure you already trust.

The Mission

Built for the
First In.

First responders carry weight that most people can't imagine. The calls. The shifts. The things you can't unsee. The culture that says stuff it down, push through, and keep going. And the internal fires — the unrestful sleep, the hypervigilance, the isolating — that nobody talks about in the apparatus bay.

Flashpoint Consulting LLC was built from inside that culture. Not from a therapist's office looking in, but from the fireground, the apparatus bay, and the command post. The coaching here speaks your language because it was forged in it — by someone who has done the work from the inside out.

The C.A.N. Framework grew out of that work — a coaching model built around a structure we already trust with our lives on the fireground. It provides a familiar, practical way to improve mental wellness conversations: Clarity, Actions, and Next Steps. Not therapy. Not a slogan. An operational tool for real conversations.

The Method

The C.A.N. Framework

We already trust the C.A.N. radio report on the fireground. This is the same structure — reimagined as a coaching tool for the conversations that matter most off of it.

C
Clarity

Know What's Actually Burning

Before you can act, you need an accurate size-up. Clarity is about understanding what you want, organizing your thoughts, aligning your values, and finding the why behind the what. Not what the culture says you should feel — the truth on the ground.

A
Actions

Deploy the Right Response

Clarity without action is just observation. Actions aren't about telling someone what to do — it's about asking the right questions so they discover their own move, one that aligns with their values and their readiness to act. Not reactive. Not overwhelmed. On task.

N
Next Steps

Build What Lasts

This is the bridge between a meaningful conversation and real, lasting growth. Next Steps turn insight into impact — moving from awareness to accountability, through goals that are meaningful, realistic, and supported. This is where change actually happens.

"If we can trust the C.A.N. radio report to guide us through the chaos of the fireground, we can trust it to guide us through the quieter battles too."

About CJ

I've Been In
the Fire.

Not metaphorically. Literally. For over two decades I've served as a firefighter, officer, and Battalion Chief — responding to the calls most people never see, leading crews through the worst moments of people's lives. The toughest challenges I've faced weren't on the fireground. They were internal — unrestful sleep, hypervigilance in large crowds, and isolating myself from the people who mattered most.

"I built Flashpoint Consulting because the system that trains us to run into burning buildings has almost nothing built to help us deal with what that does to us inside."

I thought stuffing those feelings down was how we were supposed to manage them. Therapy felt like weakness. Coaching? I didn't even know it was an option. But over time I did the work — and it taught me that true mental toughness isn't about holding it all in. It's about facing what's inside and taking intentional actions.

Having completed the First Responder Coaching (FRC) certification and trained in ICF Core Competencies, I built the C.A.N. Framework from that experience — a coaching model that speaks the language of the fire service because it was forged in it. It's not therapy. It's not a slogan. It's an operational tool for the conversations that change things — one powerful question at a time.
